I haven't uploaded anything in a long time, due to the fact that a) I still don't own a proper scanner to scan in my *good* art (much better than what's on here now, trust me) b) I still haven't quite mastered my Bamboo penpad (I don't call it a tablet as it had no screen, it's one of those draw but look at the computer screen dealios) and c) I haven't had much time to draw lately.
That said, I am still on my path as an art major (and a teacher someday hopefully if I don't find a better gig, which I doubt I will) and still in school, hence the lack of time. A classmate of mine recently approached me with a commission, and being an unemployed youth who lives in her parents' house and has no money or bank account of her own, I said I'd see what I cand do. I kinda thought it was just a casual thing "do it or don't it doesn't matter" but he's serious! He'll actually pay me to design a logo!
Now, this is the problem: other than my time crunch, I have NO IDEA how to price my work. I understand that it's really the time and supplies that determine the thing, but really, how much should I charge? I'm not a professional, I haven't taken any design classes yet, and if I do it digitally (which I probably won't, at least in the starting phase, as I still feel that a regular pencil affords more control) will that affect the price?? Anybody have any ideas? Or any useful links? If this goes well, I'll start doing more commissions, even through DA maybe (provided that I get some of my good stuff on here, because fucking computers man). It'd be nice to start making some pocket cash while I try to find some real employment somewhere.

EDIT: my father suggests that as a nonprofessional beginner, I should charge $5 an hour. The client has offered $40 for the commission, which mathematically works out to eight hours (I dunno if I mentioned that I'm doing a logo for their small business, a sort of fighting/meditation dojo type thing based around the ways of the Force and the teachings of the Jedi and/or Sith. It's geeky, it's awesome, it's gonna be hard to avoid copyright infringement, but it's a real commission!! It's an actual business! :D) SO that works for now I suppose (because this is also  through a friend of mine, and we're all broke, I'm hesitant to take more money) but any advice I could get for the future or for the starting out phase would be much appreciated!

I have no idea how to help with pricing- but I'll pass the question along
